Class Meeting 1: Lunar Nodes Here Rahu and Ketu, the nodes of the Moon are thoroughly investigated. We define what a node is, its cycles, how it was discovered and its relationship to the eclipse phenomenon. We look at the varying techniques for delineating the nodes, discuss what they mean to the Hindu astrologer and the Cosmobiologist, what they meant to the ancients, and how modern astrologers have evolved their thinking about them. In the homework the student is asked, as always, to analyze the nodes within their study charts to glean a working understanding of these important and often-used points. Class Meeting 2: Standouts During this week and next, the so-called standouts find themselves under our gaze. Intercepted signs, voids or singletons in elements, unaspected planets, the lack of a particular aspect, and mutual reception are examined here as factors which jump out of the chart and catch the astrologer's eye. The student is inspired to look at his and other charts for a hands-on comprehension of these important and dynamic phenomena. Class Meeting 3: Minor Aspects This week we introduce and explore the minor aspects, along with the basics of harmonic theory. The minors are often more major players in chart delineation than they are given credit for being, and the student is asked to investigate them within their own natal chart and their work charts. The perplexing question regarding 'quincunx or inconjunct' is explored, from a traditional astrological perspective. Class Meeting 4: Antiscia Antiscia and Contra-Antiscia are introduced. Midpoints are also touched on as a factor in the fourth harmonic relation to the Aries Point. Using examples, the mirroring phenomenon is explained as a valuable aid to understanding some subtle relationships between planets and sensitive points, both in natal and in synastric analysis. Class Meeting 5: Arabic Parts This week is devoted to the exciting calculation and understanding of the Lots. The PoF is explored, and we enter into a discussion of exactly what "Fortuna" is to us in our lives. It is more than just 'luck,' and as a combination of the three most personal and vital points in the horoscope, the PoF gives the astrologer valuable information into how "Fortuna" in all its many connotations, is wired into our psychic structures. There is also discussion and practice using the ancient system of "Fortune" houses, and brief examination of the many other Lots which the ancients invented and used. Material used in this lesson is an essay by Robert Hand. Class Meeting 6: Dispositor Patterns Dispositorship mapping is the subject of these last two weeks. How internal energy flows and the story it tells is made transparent through an examination of dispositorship flow. We also study here Diane and Rudy Flack's system of using Dispositor Patterns as a key to unlocking subtle syndromes within a natal chart. Class Meeting 7: Chiron This week the members of the class will focus on the asteroid/cometoid Chiron in our own charts. We will define both 'wounding' and 'healing' from a broad, human-development perspective. The class is also devoted to making important distinctions between Chiron, as wounded healer, and Pluto as wounder and as healer. Questions involving 'death,' 'transformation,' and 'sacrifice' will be addressed in the context of both Chiron's and Pluto's mythology and astrological delineation tradition. Class Meeting 8: Astronomical Data This is a week of rigorous study and memorization of the astronomy of astrology. Not only are the cycles of the planets committed to memory, but their physical structure, orbit and composition is seen to be consistent with their symbolism. Class Meeting 9: Final Exam |
